Entryways are an important spot when it comes to your home. It’s the first thing that everyone sees when they walk in the door, [a first impression, if you will] and it’s more than likely the spot where everyone in your family kicks off their shoes and (depending on your climate and season of life) sheds a jacket or backpack. While I can appreciate a fully decorated space, I can also attest to the fact that we need our homes to be functional!
So for our entryway, I chose to incorporate a bench (for tying shoes) and a mirror for those last minute hair checks on the way out the door. We also needed hooks for my tote and Eleanor’s backpack. E quickly decided to use my purely decorative basket under the bench to house her shoes, and naturally, I added some decor to the bench.
I like the way that the woven light fixture ties in to the jute rug, bench and even the tiny basket. The wood from the hooks also pulls from the bench. You start seeing black on the front door, before you ever step foot inside the house, and then it’s repeated on the mirror, bigger basket and even the cord for the light fixture. (Tiny details matter!) For the photo, I added some greenery to the bench to pull from the wreath on the front door. I love how the pillow adds a pop of color to an otherwise neutral space.
