Small changes can make a big impact, and our hallway is just the place for such a demonstration. It’s not a big reveal or some huge makeover that you’d be super excited to see come together. It’s just a small place that we pass through multiple times per day, and I wanted it to feel cozier somehow. Ya know, if a hallway can feel cozy. (Spoiler: it can!)
Ironically, this is the first place I “decorated” when we moved in to this house. I really just needed a spot to hang these wall-hangings so they wouldn’t get crushed, and there happened to be a nail already in the wall down the hallway. I vacuumed (aren’t vacuum lines just the best?), and added this stool and a happy little faux plant for this picture. Anyway, here’s the only before shot that I have on my phone.
Not too much has actually changed, visually anyway. I mean it was a lot of work to get to the current state of this hallway, but just peeking in at the before and after doesn’t show all of that.
We updated the flooring and baseboards, painted the walls white and switched the boob lights for some woven shades.
These new light fixtures are actually just some small baskets that I ordered and turned upside down. We grabbed some light kits (not sure the actual terminology there – have I mentioned I’m not a DIY blog? lol) from Lowe’s and just sort of switched them out. [I’m the vision, Leslie’s the make-it-happen, so maybe HE should run a DIY blog] Anyway, it was a fun dupe for those really expensive woven lights I’ve seen floating around the internet. We saved a ton of money by using baskets as opposed to “pendants”.
Clearly stools at the end of a hallway are kind of my thing, because that’s what we ended up with not once, but twice in this hall. (I grabbed these for $5 each from a local shop)
I decided to keep it simple and just hang two frames. I feel like the smaller frames make the hallway feel a little bigger than it really is somehow.
Now every time I walk through this space, it’s actually enjoyable. Clean, bright and airy are my home decor love languages, and this spot fits the bill now.
